- Distinguish direct costs from indirect costs based on how each cost benefits federal awards and other organizational activities.
- Explain how indirect cost pools and allocation bases are used to distribute shared costs equitably.
- Evaluate whether an organization may use the 15% de minimis rate or should consider another indirect cost recovery option.

- Identify circumstances in which a fringe benefit, equipment, or other internal billing rate may improve cost recovery and consistency.
- Construct a basic specialized rate using an allowable cost pool and an allocation base that reflects the services provided.
- Recognize the documentation, reconciliation, and internal controls needed to support rate-based charges to federal awards.

This webinar gave a live demonstration showcasing how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be leveraged by grant writers and managers. This webinar was open to organizations of all types, including state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations, nonprofits, and small businesses. Participants will gain practical insights into how to more responsibly and effectively integrate AI into grant workflows, including strategies for using AI to enhance capacity and application development.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants were able to:
1. Explore practical ways AI can be used to analyze grant opportunities, help with grant writing, and strengthen existing grant applications
2. Develop effective prompts for common grant activities
3. Responsibly integrate AI into grant workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and internal capacity building
